What tests are needed for patent ductus arteriosus?

Patent ductus arteriosus is a congenital meridian, and infants can only hear a systolic murmur. In late-stage pulmonary hypertension, the murmur changes greatly, but there is only a systolic murmur, or the systolic murmur disappears, replaced by a diastolic murmur of incomplete closure of the pulmonary valve.

The disease is checked as follows:

1. X-ray examination

The cardiac shadow is enlarged, the left heart border extends to the left, the aortic node is widened and may become funnel-shaped, the pulmonary artery segment is prominent, the hilar vascular shadows are thickened, and the pulmonary blood volume increases.

2. Electrocardiogram

Mild cases are normal, severe cases have left ventricular hypertension or left ventricular hypertrophy, and pulmonary artery hypertension causes hypertrophy of both ventricles.

3. Echocardiography

The inner diameters of the left atrium and left ventricle were enlarged, and a blood flow channel was visible between the left and right pulmonary artery bifurcation and the descending aorta.

4. Right cardiac catheterization

The oxygen content in the pulmonary artery exceeds that in the right ventricle by 5 vol%; the pulmonary artery pressure and resistance increase to varying degrees, and the right cardiac catheter is inserted from the pulmonary artery to the aorta.

5. Retrograde aortography

The pulmonary artery and aorta are visualized simultaneously, and a patent ductus can be seen.
