What causes Hirschsprung's disease in children?

The main cause of congenital megacolon is abnormal development of intestinal nerves. It is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible for detailed examination and treatment.

This is caused by abnormal development of the intestinal nervous system during the fetal period, which is manifested by the lack of ganglion cells in some intestinal segments. The intestinal segments lacking ganglion cells cannot transmit nerve signals normally, resulting in ineffective peristalsis of the intestines, which makes it easy for feces and gas to accumulate, forming intestinal obstruction of varying degrees.

Often, parents will notice that their child has bloating, constipation, or even very difficult bowel movements after birth. Some newborns may not have meconium for several days, or have difficulty passing stools, which is a key early sign. If the symptoms are mild, the child may not show symptoms of chronic constipation or bloating until he is a little older.

Parents should pay special attention to whether their children have obvious defecation problems. If you find that meconium is delayed after birth, or your child often has severe abdominal distension and constipation, please take your child to a regular hospital and consult a pediatrician or gastroenterologist. Through medical history collection, imaging examinations, and intestinal biopsies to clarify the cause, the doctor will recommend the most targeted treatment plan.
