Which drugs can cause ADHD?

In life, when many children get sick, their parents will give them medicine and try not to go to the hospital. However, this is very dangerous. Parents must not give their children medicine indiscriminately, because some of these medicines will pose a great health threat to their children.

4 kinds of drugs that prevent children from growing taller

1. Adrenal cortex hormone

We all know that hormone drugs are rarely used in infants and young children. Why do adrenocortical hormones affect the growth and development of infants and young children? The effect of this drug on infants and young children is mainly through breast milk. If lactating women use adrenocortical hormones for a long time, the hormones can be excreted from breast milk. After inhalation, infants and young children can inhibit the pituitary gland from secreting growth hormone, the adrenal cortex function is inhibited, and the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to hormones is reduced, which eventually leads to delayed growth. Children or adolescents who use adrenocortical hormones for a long time are prone to osteoporosis, femoral head necrosis, glaucoma, etc., which should be paid close attention to.

2. Quinolone antibiotics

Similar to adrenal cortical hormones, most of these drugs can enter the placenta and breast milk. The concentration in breast milk is close to the blood concentration, which has adverse reactions on infants and young children, so they are prohibited for use by breastfeeding women. In addition, quinolone antibiotics can damage weight-bearing cartilage joints, causing joint swelling and pain, and affecting the growth of limb bones. The instructions for this type of drug stipulate that the safety and effectiveness of its use in adolescents under 18 years of age, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women have not been established, and this type of drug should be prohibited.

3. Tetracycline

Since tetracycline has a high affinity for calcium, it can be quickly incorporated into long bones. The drug can be deposited in the growing bones and teeth of fetuses, newborns and children, causing tooth discoloration, poor enamel regeneration, and inhibited bone growth in infants and young children. If the dose of tetracycline reaches 7 to 25 mg/kg body weight each time, the growth and development of children over 40 years old can be inhibited.

4. Central nervous system stimulants

Drugs such as methylphenidate, dextroamphetamine sulfate, pemoline, and moxidectin are often used to treat children with ADHD. In a study of moxidectin treatment of children with ADHD that lasted for one year, it was found that the height and weight indicators of the children were lower than expected, and the degree was related to the dosage and duration of the medication. Long-term use of dextroamphetamine sulfate can inhibit the growth and development of children taking the medication. The use of methylphenidate can cause decreased appetite, abdominal discomfort, and weight loss. Therefore, during the treatment with these drugs, the growth and development of the children taking the drugs needs to be monitored.

ADHD in children is not a simple disease. It is related to many other diseases, such as dwarfism and others. Above we talked about 4 kinds of drugs that will cause children to not grow tall, so parents should always pay attention to their children's health and not give them drugs indiscriminately.
