When is the best time to take ADHD medication?

ADHD is the abbreviation of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Its incidence rate accounts for about 3-5% of school-age children. Children with ADHD are difficult to be tolerated and accepted by teachers and classmates because of their lack of concentration, excessive activity, impulsiveness and willfulness, and poor academic performance. Their cognitive, behavioral and emotional abnormalities also bring great pain and helplessness to their families.

If they cannot be properly corrected, about 10% of children with ADHD will have a lower cultural level than their normal peers when they grow up. About 11.1% of adults who suffered from ADHD in childhood may have emotional disorders such as irritability, arrogance, and inferiority. They have difficulty in interpersonal communication, have lower professional levels, and have a higher juvenile crime rate than normal children. Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children should be given attention by society.

The intelligence and mental development of children with ADHD are mostly normal, but because of difficulty in concentrating and impulsive behavior, the efficiency of learning activities such as reading, listening to classes, and homework is low. The volatility of academic performance and the downward trend year by year are the prominent manifestations of the learning status of children with ADHD. The volatility of academic performance means that with the strict supervision and help of teachers and parents, academic performance can be improved, but once relaxed, the performance will drop significantly. However, the difference between good and bad is huge, and the ups and downs of grades are very unstable. In normal children, this fluctuation range is not large.

Through the above understanding, when a child is in a state of ADHD, that is, when there is an indication for treatment with stimulants, drugs should be used to help improve the active attention ability of learning; at the same time, it can improve the child's behavioral impulsiveness, emotional abnormalities and other symptoms. Of course, the doctor should first diagnose and determine the dosage of the drug.

The last thing to know is that the best treatment period for ADHD is in the early stages of the disorder, so we must be good at observing our children. Only by curing them during the best treatment period can they recover faster.
