Mumps is a common disease for people, and its incidence rate is one of the highest among many types of mumps. Its attacks are recurrent and cyclical, with normal intervals. If the patient's spirit is stimulated, it will induce a secondary mumps attack. A small number of patients will have complications such as vomiting, nausea, blurred vision, etc., and the frequency of the attacks will usually become more and more frequent as the disease progresses. There are many types of treatments for mumps. Depending on the patient's condition, the doctor will give him different treatment plans. At present, the treatment is still mainly based on drugs. The drug treatment plan can be divided into two parts: emergency treatment and preventive treatment. Today we will introduce the preventive drug selection. At present, there is clear evidence that the drugs that can effectively prevent mumps include: ① β-receptor blockers, such as propranolol, timolol and atenolol, are effective in preventing mumps, but the required dose is large and many patients cannot tolerate it. Patients with asthma, hypotension, heart failure, atrioventricular block and diabetes should not use them or use them with caution; ② Calcium channel antagonists are the most commonly used preventive drugs in clinical practice, represented by sibelium (flunarizine), which are more effective than other calcium channel antagonists such as nimodipine and verapamil. The main adverse reactions are drowsiness and weight gain, but it is suitable for patients with sleep disorders; ③ Antiepileptic drugs, such as valproic acid and topiramate, are similar to propranolol and sibelium in preventing mumps. Note that valproic acid has side effects such as weight gain, alopecia, and liver damage, and may also have teratogenic effects; ④ Antidepressants, amitriptyline has the best effect, doxepin, clomipramine, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Prozac, Seroxat, etc.) and other antidepressants are not as effective as amitriptyline, and are particularly suitable for patients with depression. The main adverse reactions are dry mouth, constipation and weight gain. Patients with glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy and arrhythmia should not use it or use it with caution; ⑤5-hydroxytryptamine antagonists, pizotifen, have been used as preventive drugs for a long time, but the side effects are serious (sleepiness, weight gain), and now it is basically no longer used as a first-line preventive drug; When using mumps prevention and treatment, the following principles should be followed: choose the most appropriate treatment drug based on individual conditions and adverse reactions, weigh the pros and cons, and start with a small dose and gradually increase the dose; patients should keep a diary of mumps attacks to facilitate the evaluation of the effectiveness of prevention and treatment; avoid using large amounts of analgesics while taking preventive drugs; the course of preventive treatment is 2 to 6 months; for those with poor efficacy, it is important to reconsider the diagnosis and concomitant diseases; if one drug is ineffective for prevention, another drug or a combination of drugs can be selected. Dear patients, you can learn from the above about the selection and principles of preventive drug treatment for mumps. In addition, this type of treatment is suitable for cases where the symptoms and frequency of mumps attacks have increased and complications are more serious during attacks. Patients should listen to the doctor's advice and use medication with caution. |
