What medicine should children take for mumps

Mumps is the most common disease among people at present. Many people will experience symptoms of this disease in their lives. After the onset of the disease, their joints will experience abnormal pain. Therefore, we should learn more about this disease. There are many drugs that can treat this disease. Let’s take a look at what drugs are available for treating mumps.

Acetaminophen: also known as paracetamol, is a commonly used over-the-counter antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug. It produces antipyretic and analgesic effects by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. It is suitable for relieving acute attacks of mild and moderate mumps.

Ibuprofen: Like acetaminophen, it is an over-the-counter drug for antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory. It produces analgesic effects by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins. Its effect is stronger than acetaminophen and is suitable for relieving acute parotitis. Both the ordinary preparation and the sustained-release preparation of this drug can be used. The sustained-release preparation, such as ibuprofen, has a longer-lasting effect and is taken once every 12 hours, which is more convenient. Naproxen, which has similar effects to this drug, is also commonly used to treat mild and moderate parotitis.

Ergotamine Caffeine: Each tablet of this preparation contains 1 mg of ergotamine tartrate and 100 mg of caffeine. The ergotamine mainly acts directly on the contraction of smooth muscles and is related to the stimulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine receptors, which restores the excessive dilation and pulsation of cerebral arteries to normal, thereby relieving headaches. Caffeine can enhance the efficacy of ergotamine and reduce side effects.

Pizothiazide: It has strong antihistamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine and weak anti-acetylcholine effects, and can inhibit the pain-inducing effect of bradykinin on nerve endings. It is suitable for the prevention and treatment of mumps and can alleviate symptoms and the number of attacks, but it has no immediate relief effect on acute attacks of mumps. The usual dosage is 0.5-1 mg (1-2 tablets) each time, 1-3 times a day.

Sumatriptan: It is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor agonist with the effect of constricting the carotid artery. It is suitable for the treatment of acute mumps. The initial oral dose is 100 mg, 2 to 3 times a day. Generally, symptoms can be relieved about 30 minutes after oral administration. If the first dose is ineffective, the second dose will not be given.

By understanding the above knowledge, friends should know what are the drug treatment methods for mumps. Mumps will cause more harm to patients after it occurs, so we should pay more attention to rest and must avoid the occurrence of mumps. When we become ill, we should actively treat the disease.
