Is bacterial mumps contagious?

Bacterial mumps is usually called suppurative mumps in clinical practice. Although suppurative mumps is generally not contagious, it also requires timely treatment with a doctor to prevent the disease from further deterioration.

Suppurative parotitis is usually caused by infection with Staphylococcus aureus. Under normal circumstances, the parotid glands secrete a large amount of saliva, which is then discharged into the mouth through the parotid duct to help digestion. If the body's resistance is reduced, the pathogen will retrograde into the gland when passing through the parotid duct, causing suppurative parotitis, which will cause local pain and swelling, accompanied by limited mouth opening. Although this disease will have a certain impact on health, it is not contagious, so patients can have normal contact with others.

Patients with suppurative mumps need to take azithromycin capsules, amoxicillin capsules, cephalosporin capsules, penicillin V potassium tablets and other drugs under the guidance of doctors. These drugs have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. They can improve physical discomfort symptoms and prevent the disease from getting worse. During the treatment, you should pay attention to a light diet, drink more warm water, and avoid spicy and irritating foods such as peppers, garlic, and ginger to avoid aggravating symptoms.
