How to diagnose hernia in children

How is hernia diagnosed in children?

1. An oval mass can be seen locally. The mass leads to the abdominal cavity and is easily included in the abdominal cavity. The mass that compresses the inner ring cannot expand. The urge can be felt when the child coughs and cries.

2. If a child has a protruding inguinal mass and the mass cannot be found temporarily, for infants, you can stimulate them to cry or apply abdominal pressure. For older children, you can make them cough, hold their breath, have their abdomen bulge, or run and jump to find the mass and make a clear diagnosis.

3. In the early stage of hernia in children, when the child lies flat and quiet, the tumor can disappear. As the abdominal pressure continues to increase, the tumor can be lowered to the scrotum. At this time, if the factors that increase the intra-abdominal pressure can be alleviated, let the child lie flat or gently push the tumor into the abdominal cavity, the tumor can return to the abdomen through the channel when the testicle descends and disappear. This situation is called reducible hernia.

4. If the swelling cannot return to the abdominal cavity, abdominal pain will worsen. Crying will not only cause vomiting, abdominal distension, and poor defecation and other symptoms of intestinal obstruction. Oval swelling can be seen in the groin or scrotum, with a hard texture and obvious tenderness. If the intestine cannot be recovered for a long time, serious complications such as intestinal scurvy and intestinal ischemic necrosis may occur.
