What are the routes of infection for mumps?

Mumps is transmitted through indirect transmission, direct contact and upper respiratory droplets. This disease is more common in minors, and symptoms include swelling and pain of the parotid glands and fever. Timely treatment is necessary, otherwise the condition may worsen and develop into meningitis or orchitis, which is difficult to treat.

1. Indirect contact transmission

It refers to contact with daily necessities contaminated with mumps virus, such as towels, bath towels, tea cups, bowls and chopsticks, and washbasins. It is one of the important ways of causing disease infection.

2. Direct contact transmission

If you have close contact with someone with the mumps virus, including kissing, or sleeping in the same bed for a long time, you also have a certain chance of being infected.

3. Transmission via upper respiratory droplets

The droplets released by mumps patients when they cough, sneeze and talk contain a certain amount of virus. If these droplets are inhaled, they may be infected by bacteria and cause mumps.

The above are several major ways of infection of mumps, which are easy to occur in kindergartens or primary and secondary schools. After the onset of the disease, not only should timely treatment be given, but also attention should be paid to isolation and protective measures to prevent the disease from spreading to others.
