What are the symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease?

Hand, foot and mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by enterovirus infection. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, loss of appetite, poor spirit, drowsiness, weak sucking, easy startle, blisters on the oral mucosa, palms, fingers, toes, buttocks, etc. Most symptoms are mild, but a few children progress rapidly, with damage to the central nervous system. A few children may also suffer from cardiopulmonary failure and even death. The disease is mainly transmitted through children's excrement, secretions, saliva and herpes fluid. Children often come into contact with contaminated hands, toiletries, toys and food utensils.

If your baby is unfortunately infected, parents should pay attention to the following points when using medication:

1. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5℃, physical cooling should be used, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Care should be taken not to use too many antipyretic drugs, and alternating or combining two drugs is not recommended.

2. Use antiviral drugs with caution. Although there is no specific antiviral drug for hand, foot and mouth disease, the early application of broad-spectrum antiviral drugs in clinical discovery, such as recombinant human interferon α and ribavirin, has a certain effect. At present, ribavirin aerosol is already on the market. Studies have confirmed that ribavirin aerosol has a small dose, fast effect, high local concentration, good clinical efficacy, and few adverse reactions in the treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease, which can shorten the duration of rash lesions to a certain extent.

It is also important to note that the condition of a few patients progresses rapidly. If you do not seek medical treatment in time, it is easy to develop into a serious disease and endanger your life. Because the treatment indications at each step are not easy for ordinary parents without a medical background to grasp. Once a child has symptoms such as persistent high fever, lung inflammation, and mental depression, you must go to the hospital for treatment in time.
