Does hand, foot and mouth disease affect pregnancy? People are generally susceptible to the enterovirus that causes hand, foot and mouth disease. They can gain immunity after being infected. People of all age groups can be infected and develop the disease. Therefore, adults may also be infected with hand, foot and mouth disease. Clinical manifestations

Incubation period: mostly 2-10 days, average 3-5 days.

(I) Common symptoms: acute onset, fever, scattered herpes on the oral mucosa, maculopapular rash and herpes on the hands, feet and buttocks, inflammatory redness around the herpes, less fluid in the blisters. May be accompanied by cough, runny nose, loss of appetite and other symptoms. Some cases only show rash or herpetic pharyngitis. Most cases recover within a week with a good prognosis. Some cases have atypical rash manifestations, such as: single site or only maculopapular rash

(II) Symptoms of severe cases: In a small number of cases (especially those under 3 years old), the disease progresses rapidly, with meningitis, encephalitis (brainstem encephalitis is the most dangerous), encephalomyelitis, pulmonary edema, circulatory disorders, etc. occurring within 1-5 days of onset. In a very small number of cases, the condition is critical and can lead to death, and survivors may have sequelae.

Neurological manifestations: poor spirit, drowsiness, easy to startle, headache, vomiting, delirium and even coma; limb tremor, myoclonus, nystagmus, ataxia, eye movement disorder;

Weakness or acute flaccid paralysis; convulsions. Physical examination can reveal signs of meningeal irritation, weakened or absent tendon reflexes, and positive pathological signs such as Babinski's sign.

Respiratory system manifestations: shallow breathing, difficulty breathing or rhythm changes, cyanosis of lips, cough, coughing up white, pink or bloody foamy sputum; moist rales or sputum sounds can be heard in the lungs

Circulatory system manifestations: pale complexion, skin patterns, cold limbs, cyanosis of fingers (toes), cold sweats, prolonged capillary refill time, faster or slower heart rate, shallow or weakened pulse or even disappearance, and increased or decreased blood pressure.

If there are no complications, the prognosis is generally good and most patients recover within a week. Therefore, hand, foot and mouth disease can be cured and has no effect on pregnancy, so you can rest assured.
