What is the difference between choking and coughing in newborns? What is the treatment for choking and coughing in newborns?

There is a big difference between choking and coughing in newborns. First of all, the causes of their formation are different. Choking is mainly caused by newborns feeding too quickly or choking on other foreign objects in the throat. Coughing is an immune response to respiratory tract irritation. In addition, the duration of choking and coughing in newborns is different, and the treatment methods are also very different.

Many newborns will have choking or coughing after birth, but many expectant mothers are not particularly clear about the difference between choking and coughing, thinking that choking and coughing belong to the same disease. In fact, the two are very different. So, what are the differences between choking and coughing in newborns?

1. Different causes

Choking cough is mainly caused by the baby eating too fast or choking on the throat by other foreign objects. However, coughing is a common symptom. It is caused by the newborn catching a cold or being infected by microorganisms such as bacteria and pathogens. At this time, the respiratory system becomes abnormal and the respiratory tract makes an immune response.

2. Duration is different

The duration of choking cough is short and sudden. When a newborn has choking cough, it will gradually subside within a few minutes and the duration is relatively short. However, the duration of cough is much longer than choking cough. If the cough lasts for a long time, it can only be gradually relieved if the corresponding cause of the cough is found.

3. Different treatment methods

The treatments for choking and coughing are also different. If a newborn has choking, the expectant mother should pat the newborn's back in time. If there are other foreign objects or the baby feeds too fast, the choking will gradually subside in about 1 to 2 minutes, and then the baby can drink more warm water. The treatment of cough is more complicated. Coughing is not an independent disease, but a symptom of some diseases. Therefore, to treat cough, the specific cause of the cough must be diagnosed first, and the cause must be treated to gradually relieve the cough.

Choking and coughing are very different, but they are also related. Choking is just a special form of coughing. Whether a newborn has choking or coughing, it must be treated in time, otherwise it may affect the baby's health, especially if the cough lasts too long, it will induce respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and pneumonia in the child. The sooner the treatment, the better.
