Can low platelet count cause pneumonia in babies?

Can low platelet count cause pneumonia in babies?

Low platelet count in babies may cause pneumonia, but it is usually not directly related to pneumonia. When platelet count is low, the body's coagulation function will be affected, and bleeding tendency will occur easily, such as bleeding of the skin and mucous membranes, bleeding of the gums, etc. In severe cases, intracranial hemorrhage may occur. Pneumonia is an inflammatory reaction caused by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses infecting the lungs, and is mainly manifested by symptoms such as coughing, sputum, and fever.

1. It may not cause pneumonia: If the baby simply has low platelets and is not accompanied by other discomfort symptoms, it generally will not cause pneumonia. Because low platelets do not affect the normal physiological function of the lungs, it will not cause damage to lung tissue and will not cause pneumonia;

2. May cause: If the baby has anemia in addition to low platelets, it may cause pneumonia. Because anemia can cause the body's immunity to decline, it is more susceptible to external pathogens, thereby increasing the risk of pneumonia. In addition, if the baby suffers from a blood system disease or an immune system disease, it may also induce pneumonia.

When a baby has low platelet count, parents are advised to take him to the hospital for treatment in time. If the low platelet count is caused by malnutrition, nutritional supplements are needed. If it is caused by aplastic anemia, cyclosporine soft capsules, stanozolol tablets and other drugs need to be used for treatment according to the doctor's advice.
