The initial symptoms of jaundice in the brain

Jaundice in the brain is also known as neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy, which is an acute brain damage caused by excessively high bilirubin levels in the blood. In the early stages of the disease, it may cause symptoms such as drowsiness, poor spirits, slow reaction, difficulty sucking, and fever. Parents are advised to take their newborns to the doctor for diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner.

1. Drowsiness: If bilirubin enters the brain of a newborn, it may cause damage to the basal ganglia, and the newborn may become drowsy and difficult to wake up.

2. Poor mental state: If bilirubin is deposited in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus and other areas that manage language and memory, it may affect the synthesis and release of neurotransmitters, and the newborn may show symptoms such as daze and irritability.

3. Slow reaction: If the neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy causes autonomic nervous system disorders, the newborn may show symptoms such as inattention and slow reaction. When the parents tease the newborn, the newborn may show obvious delays. If there are sounds around, the newborn may not react.

4. Difficulty in sucking: If bilirubin passes through the blood-brain barrier and enters areas 4 and 6 of the precentral gyrus of the cerebral cortex, which is the motor center of the human body, the muscle control ability of the newborn may decrease, and the newborn may experience weakness and long intervals when sucking milk.

5. Fever: Newborns are born very young and their body systems are not yet mature. If neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy affects the body temperature regulation center, it may cause fever in the newborn.

Neonatal bilirubin encephalopathy may also have symptoms such as nausea and vomiting in the early stages. Parents should pay attention to this. If not treated in time, it may cause irreversible damage.
