What are the symptoms of jaundice?

Jaundice refers to the increase in serum bilirubin concentration caused by bilirubin metabolism disorder, which leads to yellowing of tissues and body fluids such as sclera, skin, and mucous membranes. Common symptoms of jaundice include yellowing of the skin and sclera, itching, darker urine, abdominal pain, fever, etc.

1. Yellowing of skin and sclera:

The skin and sclera become yellow due to elevated serum bilirubin levels.

2. Itching:

Viral infection, medication and other reasons can lead to bile duct obstruction, bile deposition, and increased bile duct pressure. When it reaches a certain level, the bile duct ruptures, and bile enters the blood circulation, causing jaundice. Bilirubin stimulates the skin nerve endings and causes itching.

3. Darker urine color:

Hemolytic jaundice can cause the urine to turn soy sauce color, and the stool color will gradually darken.

4. Abdominal pain:

These conditions can cause long-term pain in the upper abdomen due to bile duct stones, viral hepatitis, liver abscesses, or liver cancer.

5. Fever:

The fever caused by jaundice is generally caused by acute cholangitis, and it may also cause fear of cold.

If you find yellowing of the skin, sclera, or mucous membranes, you need to seek medical attention immediately. In daily life, you should avoid scratching at will, avoid cross infection, eat a light and nutritious diet, and avoid eating irritating foods.
