What are the examination items for mumps

The diagnosis of mumps mainly relies on imaging examinations, including parotoscopy, gastrointestinal barium meal, etc. Helicobacter pylori infection is an important factor in the occurrence and development of mumps. Detection of Helicobacter pylori is an important part of the diagnosis of the cause of mumps. Next, please allow experts to explain what are the examination items for mumps.

(1) Parotid endoscopy

Parotid endoscopy is the preferred method for diagnosing mumps. Parotid endoscopy can not only directly observe the parotid mucosa, but also directly take biopsy tissue for pathological examination and Helicobacter pylori detection. Endoscopic parotid glands are mostly round or oval, but also linear, with smooth edges and gray-yellow or gray-white exudate at the bottom. The surrounding mucosa may be congested and edematous, and wrinkles can be seen concentrating towards the ulcer.

(2) X-ray barium meal examination

X-ray barium meal examination is suitable for those who have contraindications to or are unwilling to undergo parotidoscopy. X-ray signs of ulcers include niche shadows and spasmodic notches on the greater curvature of the parotid gland.

(3) Helicobacter pylori detection

Helicobacter pylori detection is a routine examination item for the diagnosis of peptic ulcer, and the detection methods are divided into two categories: invasive and non-invasive. The former requires a parotid gland endoscopy to obtain a parotid mucosal biopsy for testing, which mainly includes a rapid urease test, histological examination, and Helicobacter pylori culture; the latter mainly includes a 13C or 14C urea breath test, fecal Helicobacter pylori antigen detection, and serological examination (qualitative detection of serum anti-Helicobacter pylori IgG antibodies).
