How to deal with neonatal jaundice more effectively

How to deal with neonatal jaundice more effectively

1. Sunbathing: If conditions permit, you can take your baby out to sunbathe more often. Ultraviolet rays are very helpful for the treatment of jaundice, and the time for sunbathing must be controlled. At the same time, protect the baby's eyes to avoid eye burns.

2. More excretion: Mothers can intentionally increase the number of feedings to promote the baby's stool excretion through more feedings, which is conducive to faster excretion of bilirubin.

If the above methods do not improve, then you should consider whether it is pathological jaundice. Severe jaundice can lead to serious consequences. In order to save your baby from suffering, you should go to the hospital immediately.

The difference between physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice in children

① Physiological jaundice: Physiological jaundice occurs in almost every newborn baby, with a certain degree of severity. The skin is not orange-yellow, but light yellow. The whites of the eyes are slightly yellow, the oral mucosa is slightly yellow, and the palms and soles of the feet are not yellow. Generally, the jaundice reaches its peak in 4-5 days and gradually disappears in about 10 days.

② Pathological jaundice: It can occur within 24 hours after the birth of a newborn and lasts for a long time. Some children may have recurrences. Pathological jaundice is dark orange-yellow and spreads all over the body. The child has poor sleep and spirit, is restless, and cries constantly. In severe cases, kernicterus may occur, which damages the child's brain. Parents should pay great attention to it.

What are the causes of jaundice in children? What causes high levels of jaundice in newborns?

① There are too many red blood cells in the newborn's body. After the red blood cells are destroyed, too much bilirubin is produced. Bilirubin is the direct cause of jaundice, so the newborn will have high jaundice.

②The metabolism of bilirubin requires the participation of liver enzymes in the liver. The liver function of newborns is not very perfect, which leads to insufficient secretion of liver enzymes, resulting in untimely excretion of bilirubin and high jaundice.

③The excretion of bilirubin requires the participation of the bile duct. The bile duct function of newborns is not yet perfect, so bilirubin accumulates in the body and cannot be excreted in time, resulting in excessive bilirubin and high jaundice.

④ Bilirubin can be excreted from the feces, but the meconium of newborns is relatively viscous, which makes the excretion of bilirubin not very smooth, resulting in excessive bilirubin in the newborn's body, leading to high jaundice.

⑤ Incompatibility of blood types between mother and child can also cause bilirubin to accumulate in the newborn's body and be unable to be excreted. In addition, pathological jaundice may be caused by neonatal diseases, such as neonatal asphyxia, premature birth, infection and other factors. Bacteria can cause excessive neonatal jaundice.

⑥ Breastfeeding can also cause bilirubin to accumulate in the body of newborns, resulting in high levels of jaundice in newborns.
