Severe malnutrition has many clinical manifestations, including developmental delay, lack of energy, and old appearance. Severe malnutrition increases the risk of various diseases and causes serious consequences. Therefore, it must be actively treated after it is discovered.
I believe many people know that in daily life, the main cause of malnutrition is picky eating and partial eating. For more remote and backward areas, malnutrition is mainly caused by insufficient nutrition intake. However, some people are not very clear about the symptoms of malnutrition. Here we will introduce to you the manifestations of severe malnutrition.

Severe malnutrition can cause mental depression, alternating lethargy and irritability, intellectual retardation, muscle atrophy, low muscle tone, weight more than 40% below normal, disappearance of subcutaneous fat on the abdominal wall, wrinkles on the forehead, and an old-age face. The skin is pale, dry, and inelastic, the hair is dry, the height is significantly lower than normal, and there is often hypothermia, slow pulse, loss of appetite, constipation, and in severe cases, malnutrition edema due to decreased serum protein.
People who lack protein and carbohydrates often experience decreased physical strength and resistance. Fatigue, slow growth and susceptibility to colds are common manifestations. More seriously, various organs in the body will continue to be damaged, increasing the risk of various diseases.
If malnutrition is not improved in time, it will cause serious consequences. For children, it is easy to affect their physical development and physique, leading to multiple diseases in adulthood. For adults, if they cannot supplement balanced nutrition in time, their health will get worse and worse, and chronic diseases and major diseases will easily come to visit!
