What to do if your child keeps coughing

When a child keeps coughing and has phlegm that can't be coughed up, there will be a whistling sound in the throat. When a child has this situation, his face will become very red and look very uncomfortable. The child's whole body will become unwell and he will have no energy at all. Parents are also very anxious and want to know what to do if their child keeps coughing?

1. Symptomatic treatment
To relieve cough, appropriate medication can be taken. Pediatric experts point out that antipyretic drugs such as gold and silver tea, Qingguo, and Isatis root granules are beneficial to children with pneumonia. However, they cannot be taken for a long time, especially for those with weak constitutions. Antipyretic drugs should not be taken easily. Otherwise, it will damage the integrity of the human body and aggravate the original symptoms.
2. Antibiotic treatment
The diagnosis is pneumonia caused by bacteria. It can be treated with penicillin. Allergic reactions can be treated with antibiotics. If sputum culture is positive, the drug should be selected based on the results of the drug sensitivity test.

3. Adjust the room temperature
Children often cough and have fever, and a high room temperature is not conducive to heat dissipation. Slightly cool, fresh air can shrink the respiratory mucosa, reduce congestion and swelling, and keep the airway open. However, too low a temperature will cause excessive use of nutrients for oxidation to produce energy to maintain body temperature, weaken disease resistance, and affect growth and development. The appropriate temperature is 25-28 degrees Celsius, called neutral temperature. It is generally difficult to maintain this temperature, but the room temperature can be kept from being too high or too low. Proper opening and closing of doors and windows, avoiding crowding indoors, and using fans, heaters or air conditioners are all simple and feasible measures.

4. Pay attention to hygiene
Once you find your child coughing due to pneumonia, you should pay more attention to their health. Wash your hands and gargle frequently, ventilate frequently, keep the indoor air circulating, and reduce the number of people entering and leaving public places.
5. Add or remove clothes in time
Many parents believe that children must be more afraid of cold than adults. They often cover their children too thickly and wrap them too tightly, regardless of the season, indoors and outdoors, so that they will not let their children catch a cold. As a result, the children's ability to regulate their bodies will become worse, making the children's resistance worse and worse.
