TCM etiology, pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease

Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common infectious disease, mainly caused by enterovirus. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the cause of hand, foot and mouth disease is the invasion of wind-heat evil toxins on the body surface, causing qi stagnation, gastrointestinal disharmony, insufficient positive energy, and dampness and heat accumulation. When preventing and treating hand, foot and mouth disease, the focus should be on regulating the cause and pathogenesis.

In terms of preventing hand, foot and mouth disease, it is recommended to keep indoor air circulation, keep the room clean and hygienic, wash hands frequently, and avoid contact with the saliva and other secretions of the infected person. In terms of diet, attention should be paid to avoiding raw, cold and greasy food, and eating more light and easily digestible food, such as vegetables, fruits, and white porridge, which helps regulate gastrointestinal function and enhance resistance.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the pathogenesis of hand, foot and mouth disease is mainly manifested in internal dampness and heat, and poor qi movement. In traditional Chinese medicine treatment, prescriptions that clear heat and detoxify, and promote lung function and eliminate dampness are often used for conditioning, such as Lianqiao Baidu Decoction and Renshen Liuwei Decoction, which help clear heat and dampness, detoxify and expel evil, restore the smooth flow of qi, and improve the body's resistance.

Acupuncture, massage and other traditional Chinese medicine therapies are also often used to treat hand, foot and mouth disease. By stimulating acupuncture points, it promotes the circulation of qi and blood, regulates immune function, and accelerates the discharge of pathogens, thereby shortening the course of the disease, alleviating symptoms and promoting recovery.

When treating hand, foot and mouth disease, it is necessary to pay attention to the child's diet and temperature monitoring to detect changes in the condition in a timely manner. At the same time, avoid using antibiotics for treatment, because hand, foot and mouth disease is caused by a viral infection, and antibiotics are ineffective against viruses. Instead, they may aggravate the imbalance of intestinal flora and affect recovery.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the etiology and pathogenesis of hand, foot and mouth disease are mainly due to internal dampness and heat, and poor qi movement. Therefore, in prevention and treatment, attention should be paid to clearing away heat and detoxification, promoting lung function and removing dampness, promoting smooth qi movement, and improving resistance. At the same time, paying attention to diet conditioning, maintaining indoor hygiene, and avoiding contact with sources of infection can help prevent the occurrence of hand, foot and mouth disease. During the treatment process, timely adjustment of the treatment plan, close observation of changes in the condition, and reasonable use of traditional Chinese medicine can effectively control the condition and promote recovery.
