How to reduce high jaundice in newborns and what medicine to take

Neonatal jaundice needs to be treated under the guidance of a doctor. Commonly used drugs include Yinzhihuang oral solution, phenobarbital and enzyme inducers, but the drug should be selected after the cause is determined to ensure safety and effectiveness. Blind medication is not recommended without evaluation by a professional doctor.

Neonatal jaundice is divided into physiological and pathological types. If it is physiological jaundice, it usually appears 3-5 days after birth and disappears on its own within 2 weeks. In this case, no drug treatment is usually required. It is only necessary to strengthen breastfeeding and help the baby metabolize bilirubin through urination and defecation. If it is pathological jaundice, such as hemolytic jaundice, breast milk jaundice or jaundice caused by infection, drug treatment or even blue light exposure may be required. Yinzhihuang oral solution is the first-line drug for the treatment of pathological jaundice, which helps to accelerate the metabolism of bilirubin. Phenobarbital can promote the production of liver enzymes and enhance the excretion of bilirubin. Enzyme inducers also work by increasing the metabolic rate, but the level of jaundice needs to be tested before starting to determine the specific drug indications.

The key to treating neonatal jaundice is timely detection and early intervention. At home, parents need to pay attention to changes in the color of the baby's skin and whites of the eyes. When jaundice is severe, the skin usually appears more obviously yellow. If accompanied by symptoms such as drowsiness, refusal to feed, and convulsions, seek medical attention immediately. Breastfeeding mothers can increase the frequency of breastfeeding appropriately to improve the baby's defecation efficiency. During the treatment process, bilirubin levels should be checked regularly to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment, and the doctor's advice should be followed to adjust the medication or treatment plan. Do not take medication privately to avoid delaying the disease or causing side effects.
