Examination of pneumonia in children

Examination of pneumonia in children

Neonatal pneumonia is the most common infectious disease in the neonatal period, with high morbidity and mortality rates. It is characterized by diffuse lung lesions and atypical clinical manifestations. It requires early diagnosis and correct treatment. If the disease occurs, examination is an essential item before treatment. So what are the main examination methods? Let's find out together.

Laboratory tests

1. Blood picture

The main examination is white blood cell count, <5109="" l="">20×109/L, which can also be within the normal range.

2. Etiological diagnosis

After birth, the nasopharyngeal secretions are cultured for bacteria and isolated for viruses for diagnosis. Then, as needed, gastric fluid smears are performed to find white blood cells and antigens, or blood samples are taken and pharyngeal tracheal secretions are smeared, cultured, and tested by countercurrent immunoelectrophoresis.

3. Fluorescent antibody and serum antibody test

Increased IgG and IgM, cord blood IgM> 200-300 mg/L

Among them, the increase of specific IgM is meaningful for the diagnosis of intrauterine infection.

Testing

Chest X-ray findings and significance:

1. Bronchopneumonia

In postnatal infectious pneumonia, diffuse, light and dark blurred shadows or widespread dot-like or large and small infiltration shadows in both lungs can be seen on chest X-rays. In a few cases, lobar consolidation shadows can be seen.

In pneumonia infected through amniotic fluid, chest X-rays may show thickening of the lung texture on both sides, which often manifests as bronchopneumonia changes.

2. Interstitial pneumonia

In patients with intrauterine viral infection, chest X-rays show changes of interstitial pneumonia.
