Causes of diarrhea in children

Causes of diarrhea in children

Infant diarrhea is a disease we often see. Many babies have diarrhea symptoms when they are just born because of poor digestion of food. There are many other reasons for diarrhea. As long as we take good precautions for our children in life, I believe this disease will be farther and farther away from us. Let's take a look at the causes of pediatric diarrhea!

1. Extra-digestive tract infection

Infection outside the digestive tract may be the cause of diarrhea, but it is also often caused by low body resistance after diarrhea. Common infections include suppurative skin infection, urinary tract infection, otitis media, upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, pneumonia, phlebitis and sepsis. Viral enteritis occasionally complicates myocarditis.

2. Oral thrush

Children with a prolonged course of illness or pre-existing malnutrition are more likely to develop thrush, especially after long-term use of broad-spectrum antibiotics. If the medication is not stopped in time, the fungus can invade the intestines and even cause systemic fungal disease.

3. Toxic hepatitis

Jaundice may occur during diarrhea, which is more common in children with malnutrition. It may be enteritis caused by E. coli, complicated by E. coli sepsis, leading to toxic hepatitis. The condition worsens quickly after diarrhea, and death soon occurs after jaundice. However, if it is discovered early and injected with polymyxin, ampicillin or carbenicillin in time, most cases can be cured.

4. Malnutrition and vitamin deficiency

Prolonged diarrhea, repeated fasting, and long-term calorie deficiency can easily lead to malnutrition, anemia, and vitamin A deficiency. Prolonged diarrhea can damage liver function, reduce vitamin K absorption, and reduce prothrombin, leading to bleeding.

5. Others

Severe dehydration may lead to acute renal failure. In addition, toxic intestinal paralysis, intestinal bleeding, intestinal perforation, intussusception and gastric dilatation may also cause acute heart failure, hypernatremia or hyponatremia, or hyperkalemia due to improper infusion.

Vomiting can cause suffocation if not properly managed.

The above is the cause of infant diarrhea. We must pay attention when treating infant diarrhea. Try to cover the baby's belly when sleeping at night. Even in the hot summer, we must protect the child's digestive tract, so that the child will not be infected with infant diarrhea. I hope our parents can pay attention!
