Can children's hernia heal itself? 3 ways to treat children's hernia by themselves

Whether a child's hernia can heal itself depends on the child's age and condition. Generally, if the child is under one year old, the condition will heal itself as the child grows older. However, if the child is over one year old, the impact on the inguinal ring will increase due to increased exercise, and the possibility of self-healing will be greatly reduced.

Children may often suffer from hernias. This situation is mostly due to congenital factors. The main symptoms are lumps in the thigh or private parts. If the condition is mild, the lumps will generally disappear after lying down. If the disease is not treated in time, it may affect the scrotum of men and the ovaries of girls. However, some children will heal themselves without timely treatment after suffering from the disease. So can children's hernias heal themselves?
1. Can hernias in children heal on their own? Normally, hernias in children have the possibility of self-healing to a certain extent, but as they age, if the child is over one year old, the impact on the internal inguinal ring will be greater due to the increase in exercise, and the possibility of self-healing will become smaller and smaller. Hernias are mainly caused by congenital weakness and incomplete development, which leads to the failure of the processus vaginalis to close. However, the processus vaginalis has a certain possibility of automatic closure after the fetus is born, so it can be cured. If the child is over one year old, the possibility of automatic closure will be greatly reduced, so surgical treatment is generally recommended. Surgical treatment mainly includes high ligation of the hernia sac with a small incision on the transverse abdominal line. Pay special attention to rest after the operation and avoid strenuous exercise within one month to promote recovery.
2. Self-healing methods of hernia in children
1. Elastic belly band method
If the diameter of the umbilical hernia is less than 1.5 cm, it can generally heal itself within two years of age as the child develops. However, some children may have a squatting condition, in which case non-surgical treatment methods are required, mainly the elastic belly band method, which is more suitable for infants. You can choose to wear an elastic belly band during the day and loosen it when you sleep, but you need to adjust the tightness of the belly band frequently. This method is relatively simple and can not only prevent the umbilical hernia from bulging, but also ensure abdominal development and food intake.
2. Tape sticking method
If hernia occurs, you can choose the tape sticking method. First, you need to take a medical tape about 5 cm wide and 6 to 10 cm longer than the waist circumference of the child. Cut the front part about 5 cm into a tongue shape, and then make a horizontal opening in the middle, so that it is convenient for the opposite side to be inserted. After insertion, the waist and back with tape can be padded with gauze. At three years, it needs to be moderately tight, so that the hernia sac can be empty and thus appear inward. It is recommended to change it every 1 to 2 weeks, and it needs to be applied continuously for three to six months.
3. Self-treatment
After a hernia occurs, the child can lie flat and properly raise the lower body. This method can effectively make the hernia disappear. You can also gently push the mass back into the abdominal cavity with your hands. If the inguinal hernia is not very serious, it can be treated with an inguinal hernia belt.
