What to do if an infant has small intestinal hernia? Clinical methods to deal with small intestinal hernia in infants

There are two main treatments for hernias, and which treatment to take depends on the specific situation of the child, the location of the hernia, and the extent of the disease. Mild hernias may resolve on their own when the baby reaches a certain age, while severe hernias can be treated with surgery and laparoscopy.

Infantile intestinal hernia is a common and frequent disease in pediatric surgery. The cause of this disease is related to the dysplasia of the inguinal groove hernia ring in children. When children have increased abdominal pressure due to coughing, constipation and strenuous activities, it is easy to form abdominal and intestinal hernias. So what should we do about infantile intestinal hernia?
Umbilical hernias with a diameter of less than 2 cm can self-repair within two years. Umbilical hernias can also be used to temporarily relieve symptoms. This is a temporary treatment. There is no cure. It is necessary to pay attention to moderate elasticity. Inguinal hernias are prone to incarceration, that is, the small intestinal tube in the abdominal cavity falls into the scrotum, and the pressure in the abdominal cavity suddenly increases when the child cries, forming incarceration. If incarceration occurs or the mass becomes larger, you need to go to a regular medical institution as soon as possible. The most fundamental solution is surgery.
Inguinal hernia in children will first affect the child's digestive system, which is prone to lower abdominal distension, abdominal pain, constipation, malabsorption, fatigue and physical decline. Since the groin is adjacent to the urogenital system, the normal development of the reproductive system will also be affected due to the compression of the small intestine. The treatment principles for inguinal hernia in children are the same as those for inguinal hernia, that is, the small intestine in the abdominal cavity enters the sheath without a closed sheath. If the hernia is severe, it is necessary to actively consider surgery. If there is a hernia incarceration, emergency surgery is required.
As children grow, the abdominal wall tissue gradually strengthens, which may cause some inguinal hernias to disappear. It is usually recommended to use the binding method for children under 1 year old and wait until the child is 1 year old for surgery. However, the possibility of self-repair is small, and the local compression is very painful. In European and American countries, it is found that surgical treatment of inguinal hernia in children can reduce the risk of incarceration. In China, this view is gradually being accepted. It is also recommended that children with inguinal hernia undergo surgical treatment.
Inguinal hernia surgery in children can only be cured by ligating the hernia sac, without tissue repair, and the surgical procedures are divided into traditional surgery and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery. Laparoscopic surgery can safely treat inguinal hernias and can also check for the presence of bilateral hernias. It is preferred for fast postoperative recovery and small incisions.
