Why does jaundice increase again after it has subsided?

After the jaundice subsides, it may be caused by factors such as pneumonia, congenital hypothyroidism, and breast milk jaundice.

1. Pneumonia:

Newborns are young and have poor resistance. They do not have fever or cough symptoms in the early stages, but only show symptoms such as choking, vomiting, and heavy breathing. Different from pneumonia in older children, the pathological jaundice signals may increase after the jaundice decreases. You should seek medical attention in time and follow the doctor's advice to use azithromycin or roxithromycin for treatment.

2. Congenital hypothyroidism:

It refers to the condition caused by thyroid hormone deficiency or receptor deficiency. Most newborns have no obvious symptoms at birth. Some children may have pathological jaundice. Jaundice will rise after it decreases. You can use thyroid tablets, levothyroxine sodium tablets and other drugs according to the doctor's advice.

3. Breast milk jaundice:

It refers to the jaundice of newborns who are exclusively breastfed. The child is in good condition and has gained weight well. If breastfeeding is stopped, the jaundice can be significantly reduced after 3-5 days. If the jaundice does not decrease, you should go to the hospital in time to find out the cause and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor to avoid delaying the condition.
