Causes of Kawasaki disease in children

Causes of Kawasaki disease in children

The cause of Kawasaki disease in children is not yet fully understood, but studies have shown that genetic factors, environmental influences, and immune system abnormalities may be the main causes. Understanding these causes may help parents better prevent and manage the disease.

Studies have found that Kawasaki disease has a higher incidence in some families, suggesting that it may be related to genetic susceptibility. Mutations in some specific genes can cause the immune system to overreact to external factors, thereby inducing the disease. Environmental factors such as viral or bacterial infections are considered to be important external causes of Kawasaki disease, especially during seasonal influenza or in specific regions. Air pollution, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc. may aggravate children's immune disorders. In terms of physiological factors, Kawasaki disease is common in children under 5 years old, and an underdeveloped immune system may also be a cause of susceptibility. In terms of pathogenesis, studies have shown that children's immune systems are often overactive in Kawasaki disease, leading to vascular inflammatory responses, especially affecting small and medium-sized arteries.

Parents should pay attention to their children's health environment and reduce contact with suspected infectious sources and other unknown infections. Keep the indoor air of the home ventilated, reduce exposure to air pollution, and try to avoid children being in crowded or confined spaces for a long time. Vaccinate children regularly to enhance immunity. Children with a family history need to pay more attention early. Once symptoms such as high fever, rash, and conjunctival congestion occur, they should seek medical attention immediately to avoid the condition from developing into coronary artery damage.
