Causes of acute laryngitis in children

Causes of acute laryngitis in children

The weather is turning cold, and it is the peak season for children to get sick, especially acute laryngitis in children, which is most likely to attack children under 5 years old. And because children have poor immunity, the disease often recovers and recurs over and over again, which bothers both adults and children. So let's take a look at the causes of acute laryngitis in children.

Acute laryngitis in children is a common disease in infants and young children, and it often occurs in late autumn. The disease is mostly caused by viruses, bacteria or allergies, and is often secondary to pharyngitis, rhinitis or colds. Because the weather is relatively cold in this season, and children have poor resistance, they are easily caught cold by a slight change in the weather, leading to upper respiratory tract infections, and severe cases will cause acute laryngitis. The disease has an acute onset and progresses rapidly, and children's larynx is small and narrow. If they get laryngitis and the larynx swells, it often causes serious complications - laryngeal obstruction, leading to difficulty breathing and even life-threatening. Therefore, clinically, acute laryngitis in children is listed as one of the dangerous emergencies and is given priority.

The severity of acute laryngitis in children is inseparable from the anatomical characteristics of the tissues and organs in the throat. As we all know, the throat is an important part of the respiratory tract and is the location of the vocal cords and glottis. The laryngeal cavity of children is narrow, the mucosal tissue is loose, and the blood vessels, lymph and glands are extremely rich. When infected, the mucosa is prone to congestion and swelling; at the same time, children have poor immunity, the function of the central nervous system is not fully developed, and the protective reflex function is poor. When there is secretion or sputum accumulation in the throat and trachea, it is not easy to cough up, thereby blocking the respiratory tract and making breathing more difficult. Moreover, children are easily emotional, especially when they cry and make a fuss when they are sick. After being stimulated, laryngeal spasm often occurs, resulting in extremely poor breathing. As long as young parents understand the relevant knowledge, acute laryngitis in children can be completely prevented and treated.
