Mumps means infection with mumps. Symptoms of mumps infection in adults are mainly fever, headache, loss of appetite, fatigue, parotid swelling, pain, submandibular lymph node enlargement, etc. When adults are infected with mumps, some people may have prodromal symptoms, such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches all over the body, loss of appetite, fatigue, etc. After 1 to 2 days, one side of the parotid gland may swell and become painful, spreading forward, backward, and downward with the earlobe as the center. After about 2 days, the contralateral parotid gland begins to swell and become painful. Some patients may also have complications such as submandibular lymph node enlargement and encephalitis. Adult males may have complications such as orchitis, and adult females may have complications such as oophoritis. Mumps is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by mumps virus infection. There is no specific antiviral drug for clinical treatment. Symptomatic treatment is the main treatment. Patients should pay attention to bed rest, eat semi-liquid or liquid food, and avoid acidic food. When the fever is high, it is generally necessary to take ibuprofen suspension, enteric-coated aspirin tablets, acetaminophen tablets and other drugs under the guidance of a doctor; when the parotid pain is severe, painkillers such as diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets or loxoprofen sodium tablets can be taken as prescribed by the doctor. |
