What causes overactive bladder?

Hyperactive bladder is mainly caused by overactive bladder muscles, which may involve abnormal neural regulation, bladder irritation or other pathological factors. If your daily life has been significantly affected, you should consult a urologist as soon as possible for a clear diagnosis and treatment.

It manifests as frequent urination, urgency, and even incontinence, for example, you may have just gone to the bathroom and suddenly feel the urge to urinate again. This recurring situation is often related to the disorder of signal transmission of the bladder nervous system, such as the bladder contracting too early unnecessarily or overreacting to the limited urine volume. Certain irritants may also play a role, such as bladder infection, hormonal changes in the body, and reduced bladder capacity.

The situation varies among different populations. For example, the elderly and women are more susceptible due to anatomical structure or lifestyle problems. Some patients may also be related to neurological diseases such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis. Smoking, caffeine and excessive alcohol intake may also be predisposing factors.

In terms of management, you can try to adjust your lifestyle, such as reducing the intake of caffeinated drinks and spicy foods, and insisting on regular urination instead of holding urine. If the symptoms are obvious, behavioral training such as bladder training or pelvic floor muscle training can be tried to help improve them, and if necessary, you can seek drug treatment or other professional intervention.
