What are the polio tests?

Polio is an infectious disease that seriously endangers children's physical and mental health. Therefore, even if polio can be treated in time and not endanger their lives, it often leaves them with disabilities that are difficult to treat. Therefore, it is necessary to do a good job of polio examination. So what are the examination items for polio? The following is a detailed introduction for everyone, I hope it will be helpful to you.

What are the polio tests?

Poliomyelitis test item 1: virus isolation or antigen detection

Within 1 week of onset, the virus can be isolated from the nasopharynx or feces, and the feces can remain positive for 2 to 3 weeks. Early isolation of the virus from blood or cerebrospinal fluid may be more significant. Tissue culture isolation is generally used. In recent years, PCR has been used to detect enterovirus RNA, which is faster and more sensitive than tissue culture.

Poliomyelitis examination item 2: serological examination

The titer of specific immune antibodies can reach a peak at the end of the first week, especially the specific IgM which rises faster than IgG. Neutralization test, complement fixation test and enzyme labeling can be used to detect specific antibodies. Among them, neutralization test is more commonly used because it lasts longer. A 4-fold or more increase in the titer of the double serum can be confirmed. The complement fixation test turns negative quickly. If it is negative as expected and the neutralization test is positive, it often indicates a previous infection; if both are positive, it indicates a recent infection.

Poliomyelitis examination item three: check peripheral blood picture

Most white blood cells are normal, but may increase in the early stage and during secondary infection, with neutrophils being the main component.

Every parent should have a better understanding of their children's physical health so that they can grow up healthily. Combining the above content, we have a very clear understanding of what the polio examination items include. Everyone should know clearly that polio is a disease with a very high disability rate. Therefore, for the health of children, relevant preventive work should be done and children must be kept away from the harm of polio.
