What causes acute laryngitis in children?

What causes acute laryngitis in children? Any disease does not occur without reason, so we must understand the factors that induce the disease in order to prevent it in life. Acute laryngitis in children is a common and harmful pediatric disease. So, what causes acute laryngitis in children?

1. Infection: This disease is often associated with colds, usually with viral invasion first, followed by bacterial infection. It is often secondary to rhinitis, pharyngitis, and upper respiratory tract infection. It can be a precursor disease for acute infectious diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, measles, chickenpox, whooping cough, and scarlet fever.

2. Decreased resistance: It is more common in children under 5 years old. Children are prone to edema due to their low resistance, narrow laryngeal cavity, abundant submucosal lymphatic tissue, and loose subglottic tissue, which can cause airway obstruction and induce the disease. If not diagnosed and treated in time, it can often be life-threatening.

3. Other factors: Children who are calcium deficient are more likely to get acute laryngitis, especially those who are fat and grow fast, which leads to calcium deficiency. They are more likely to get the disease and have repeated attacks. Doctors remind parents that if their children have repeated attacks of acute laryngitis, they can consider supplementing their calcium intake to reduce the chance of disease or recurrence.

Generally speaking, children under one year old should take in 400-600 mg of calcium per day, and children aged 1-12 should take in about 800 mg. Taking milk as an example, 400 ml of milk can provide 300-400 mg of calcium.

Acute laryngitis in children is the abbreviation of acute laryngitis, trachea and bronchitis. It is called "lock throat wind, acute throat syndrome" in traditional Chinese medicine. It is a common acute and severe disease in infants and young children during sudden changes in temperature or cold seasons. It is mainly characterized by hoarseness, cough like dog barking, accompanied by varying degrees of inspiratory wheezing, and worsening at night. It is prone to complications of laryngeal obstruction, pneumonia, and heart failure. Severe cases can be life-threatening, so it needs everyone's attention.
