How to treat a newborn baby who chokes on milk and coughs ...

Newborns are prone to choking and coughing, which needs to be relieved as soon as possible. We can turn the baby's face to one side and gently pat the baby's back to achieve relief. We can also stimulate the soles of the feet. In life, we also need to keep the air moist, and banning smoking can bring better results.

There are actually many reasons for choking and coughing. It may be due to the inversion of the contents. Once the blood pressure increases, it will easily lead to esophageal reflux, which may then cause obvious coughing in the throat. Another reason may be that the trachea is not very well closed when the child is feeding, and there may also be severe coughing. What should I do if a newborn chokes and coughs on milk?

1. Turn your face to one side

If vomiting occurs while lying down, the baby's face should be turned to one side quickly, or the baby should be placed on his side and patted on the baby's back to prevent the vomit from flowing back into the throat and trachea due to gravity.

2. Clean your mouth

If there is obvious spitting up, you can also quickly roll up the handkerchief, put it deep into the child's mouth, and clean it quickly to keep your airway open and avoid blocking breathing. At this time, oral cleaning is more important than nasal cleaning.

3. Pat your back

If you find that the baby has difficulty breathing or his face turns black, it means that vomitus may have entered the trachea. At this time, you should place the baby on an adult's lap or bed (hard bed) and pat his back four or five times. This will relieve the cough.

4. Stimulate the soles of your feet

If all these steps have been completed and the baby still does not respond, immediately pat the child's back or pinch the soles of the feet for stimulation. The purpose is to make the baby cry because of pain. Once crying, it means that the baby can breathe and oxygen can enter the lungs to avoid hypoxia.

5. Keep the air moist

Inhaling dry air will make the nasal cavity more uncomfortable and aggravate coughing. Therefore, in order to keep the indoor air moist, you can use a humidifier, a wet towel, mop the floor with water, or place a basin of clean water in the room to increase the air humidity.

6. No smoking

Smokers are prohibited from smoking in the room. Other odorous gases such as kitchen fumes will not aggravate coughing. When cleaning the room, do not let dust fly. Gently wipe the furniture with a damp cloth to avoid coughing. In order to prevent newborns from coughing when sleeping at night, let them lie on their side. It is best to use a towel and pillow to pad the head or upper body slightly higher to avoid coughing caused by respiratory secretions reflux into the trachea, affecting sleep, and making children feel more comfortable.
