How to treat a child who keeps coughing?

Coughing in children is a problem that almost every child has experienced. Parents cannot neglect it and must treat it in time. If the child is always coughing, you can consider medication, steam cough suppressants, ensuring indoor air circulation, etc. If there is no improvement after treatment, you must go to the hospital for relevant examinations. Let’s take a look at what to do if your child is always coughing.

1. Drug treatment

First of all, the cause of the cough needs to be identified so that symptomatic treatment can be given. If the cough is caused by respiratory bacterial infection, antibiotics should be taken. If the cough is caused by respiratory viral infection, antiviral drugs should be taken. If a child has a cough for more than two months, it is mostly caused by allergic cough. At this time, the allergen should be eliminated and drug treatment should be actively carried out.

2. Steam cough relief

If the child's cough is severe, you can let the child inhale steam or stay in a steam-filled bathroom for a few minutes. The humid air can effectively clear the sticky phlegm in the lungs and relieve coughing.

3. Ensure indoor air circulation

If a child is always coughing, be sure to keep the indoor air circulating and control the temperature and cleanliness. This will help dilute the sputum and make it easier to cough out. If the air is bad and too dry, the sputum will not be easily discharged from the body on the tracheal wall.

4. Pat on the back

Many children do not spit when they cough. Even if the sputum is coughed out, it will be swallowed by the child. Therefore, parents can gently pat the child's back when the child coughs, patting up and down and left and right slowly. If the child coughs when a certain part is patted, it means that the child's sputum is accumulated there. The patting should be focused. Once the sputum is discharged, the cough can be temporarily relieved.

5. Pay attention to your diet

Children should eat a light diet and less greasy food during the cough period. They should eat more nutritious food that is easy to digest and absorb. In addition, they should not drink frozen drinks or eat raw or cold food. If the food is too cold, it will aggravate the symptoms of the cough and make it difficult to recover.
