Herpangina is not hand, foot and mouth disease, and the two diseases need to be distinguished clinically.

Herpangina is usually caused by herpes simplex virus infection, which is an acute upper respiratory tract infectious disease. After the virus invades the upper respiratory tract mucosa, it can cause herpes in the oral pharyngeal isthmus, which is often accompanied by severe pain. The herpes can break in 1-2 days and form ulcers locally. Hand, foot and mouth disease is an acute febrile rash infectious disease caused by enterovirus infection. Although this disease can also cause herpes, the main sites of disease are the hands, feet and oral cavity, and the symptoms are relatively mild. Due to the differences in the clinical manifestations and infectious viruses of the two diseases, they are two different diseases.

Although herpetic pharyngitis and hand, foot and mouth disease are not the same disease, they are both viral infections. Both diseases can be treated with antiviral drugs as prescribed by the doctor, such as ribavirin granules, ganciclovir tablets, etc. Both may cause fever, and antipyretic drugs are used. Commonly used drugs in clinical practice include ibuprofen sustained-release tablets, acetaminophen tablets, etc. If the patient with herpetic pharyngitis has obvious throat pain during the onset of the disease, drugs such as iodine lozenges or bingpengsan can be used under the guidance of a doctor to relieve the pain in the throat. During the onset of hand, foot and mouth disease, calamine lotion can be applied to the herpes site as prescribed by the doctor. After the herpes is broken, antibiotics such as erythromycin ointment and sodium fusidate ointment can be applied to prevent and treat bacterial infections.

Patients also need to pay attention to personal hygiene, avoid contact with others, maintain a light diet, and regularly disinfect their living environment to prevent the spread of the disease. At the same time, during the illness, the rash may cause itching, pain and other abnormal sensations. Patients must not scratch to avoid rupturing the herpes and causing secondary infection, which can also prevent the formation of scars.
