3-year-old child has diarrhea, fever, cough and runny nose

When a 3-year-old child has diarrhea, fever, cough, and runny nose at the same time, it may be caused by non-infectious factors, such as improper diet, etc. However, it may also be caused by upper respiratory tract infection or acute gastroenteritis caused by respiratory syncytial virus or influenza virus infection.

1. Non-infectious factors

If a 3-year-old child's abdomen is cold or eats raw, cold and irritating food, it may cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, and then symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea may occur. At this time, the child needs to be given appropriate hot compresses on the abdomen, and a warm water bath is given to physically cool down. It is also necessary to take oral probiotics as prescribed by the doctor to regulate the stomach and intestines. Commonly used probiotic granules and Xingpi Yanger granules are available. In addition, the above symptoms are also related to the recent intake of too much cold food. It is recommended that parents pay attention to the mental state and bowel movements of 3-year-old children. If necessary, they can go to the hospital for routine stool tests to confirm the diagnosis.

2. Infectious factors

1. Upper respiratory tract infection: When a 3-year-old child is infected by bacteria or viruses, an inflammatory reaction will occur in the throat, which will then induce local edema and congestion, causing symptoms such as coughing, sputum, dry throat, and itchy throat. If not treated in time, the pathogen will spread to the digestive system, causing nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. It is recommended to use antibiotics such as amoxicillin capsules and cefixime dispersible tablets for anti-infection treatment under the guidance of a doctor, and use antiviral drugs such as oseltamivir phosphate granules to control the progression of the disease.

2. Acute gastroenteritis: It is mainly caused by infections such as rotavirus and norovirus. During the onset of the disease, it will not only cause diarrhea, abdominal distension, and loss of appetite, but also be accompanied by low fever, fatigue, muscle aches and other discomforts. Usually, montmorillonite powder can be used to stop diarrhea under the guidance of a doctor and combined with antiviral drugs such as ribavirin granules for cause treatment. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5℃, you need to follow the doctor's advice to take antipyretics such as ibuprofen suspension and acetaminophen sustained-release tablets to help lower the body temperature.

In daily life, we should pay attention to keeping warm to avoid catching a cold and making existing diseases worse. In addition, we should keep the indoor air circulating and open windows for ventilation.
