What tests are needed for suppurative mumps?

suppurative parotitis

1. Parotid gland angiography, plain X-ray. Take ordinary photos before angiography. Flat-panel X-ray is necessary to exclude the presence of stones. Angiography shows stenosis of the duct system, with some parts dilated like sausages; the glandular part shows spotty terminal duct dilatation.

2. The total white blood cell count increases, the proportion of neutrophils and multinucleated leukocytes increases significantly, the nucleus moves to the left, and toxic particles may appear. However, parotid gland radiography should not be performed in acute suppurative parotitis to avoid promoting the spread of infection, and biochemical testing of saliva is also not helpful for diagnosis.

3. Purulent parotitis mostly occurs in children with a history of contact with epidemic diseases. Most of the time, bilateral parotid glands are affected, the parotid glands are swollen, but the pain is mild, there is no redness or swelling at the duct opening, the saliva secretion is clear and without pus, the total number of peripheral blood white blood cells does not increase, but the proportion of lymphocytes increases, and there is no abscess in the parotid glands. It usually takes 7 to 10 days to recover.

4. The infection in the masticatory muscle space is mainly an odontogenic infection, which is manifested by swelling, tenderness and obvious limited opening centered on the mandibular angle, but there is no redness or swelling at the parotid duct opening, the secretion is clear, and the abscess can form a deep fluid dynamic.

5. Parotid lymphadenitis, also known as pseudo-parotitis, is characterized by regional parotid swelling and pain. The lesions are inconsistent with the anatomical morphology of the parotid gland, there is no redness or swelling at the opening of the parotid duct, and the saliva secretions are clear.
