Is fever the main symptom of acute laryngitis in children?

The main symptoms of acute laryngitis in children are not only fever, but also cough, hoarseness or difficulty breathing. Fever may occur with it, but it is not the only symptom.

Acute laryngitis is an upper respiratory tract disease caused by viral or bacterial infection, which is more common in children aged 6 months to 3 years. Because the larynx and trachea of children are not fully developed, inflammation can cause congestion and edema of the laryngeal mucosa, narrow the airway, and easily cause a unique "barking" cough and throat sound when inhaling.

This disease is usually more common in autumn and winter, and symptoms can suddenly worsen, especially at night. If the cough is rapid and hoarse, and there is a clear throat sound in the breathing, you need to pay special attention. If it is accompanied by high fever, restlessness, shortness of breath or even purple lips, it may be a sign of worsening of the disease and needs to be treated promptly.

Parents can try to humidify the air at home to relieve dry throats, or let their children drink warm water to help relieve discomfort. If the child is found to be listless or the symptoms are getting worse, especially if there is difficulty breathing, the child should be taken to the doctor immediately.
