How many days does Kawasaki disease usually last in children?

Treatment of Kawasaki disease in children usually takes 2 to 3 weeks. In severe or special cases, it may take longer. It is recommended that the child be managed throughout the process by a professional doctor in a regular hospital.

Kawasaki disease is an immune-related disease that occurs mainly in children under 5 years old. The specific cause is still unclear, but it may be related to infection, genetic factors, etc. It is a systemic vasculitis that may affect the coronary arteries and cause heart problems in severe cases.

When children suffer from Kawasaki disease, symptoms may include persistent high fever for more than 5 days, obvious redness of the hands, feet and lips, rash, swollen lymph nodes, etc. If treatment is missed, serious complications such as coronary artery aneurysm may occur. Treatment is generally based on intravenous injection of immunoglobulin and aspirin. Most children's symptoms improve after treatment, but they still need to be closely monitored.

During the treatment, medications must be taken strictly according to the doctor's advice, and attention should be paid to strengthening the child's nutrition and rest. Parents should pay attention to follow-up examinations of their children's blood vessels and heart conditions. If symptoms such as persistent fever and chest discomfort occur, they should immediately return for a follow-up visit or receive further treatment.
