Typical symptoms of convulsions in children

Convulsions in children often manifest as sudden loss of consciousness, twitching of the limbs, clenched teeth, and some children may stare or roll their eyes upward. If you encounter such a situation, it is urgent and you need to seek medical attention immediately.

Convulsions are common childhood emergencies, with various causes, including fever, infection, or neurological abnormalities. For parents, understanding these basic knowledge will help them deal with emergencies and reduce unnecessary panic.

Febrile seizures are the most common type, usually occurring in children aged 6 months to 5 years. A rapid rise in body temperature may induce whole-body convulsions, which develop rapidly but usually do not last long. In contrast, seizures caused by encephalitis or epilepsy may be more complicated, accompanied by headaches, vomiting, and last longer, requiring further medical evaluation and intervention.

If a child has a seizure, parents should remain calm and ensure that the child's surroundings are safe to prevent head collisions or suffocation. Avoid trying to pry open the child's teeth and do not put anything in the mouth. It is key to monitor the time of the seizure and record the symptoms of the seizure, and to seek help from a professional doctor in a timely manner.
