What to do if your 3-year-old baby has a severe cough

A 3-year-old baby is relatively easy to take care of. At this time, the baby can already babble and use imperfect sentences to express some of his feelings or emotions. When a 3-year-old baby feels unwell, he can also communicate with adults appropriately. Coughing is a common condition for 3-year-old babies. So what should I do if my 3-year-old baby coughs badly?

During the period when the baby is coughing frequently, parents should avoid feeding the baby raw, cold or oily food frequently. The baby's diet should be light as the main element, and the baby should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. For babies with coughs, they can eat a small amount of lean meat or fresh foods such as eggs. It is important to avoid greasy and fishy foods in the baby's diet, because for babies with coughs, greasy food will be detrimental to the discharge of phlegm in the baby's mouth.
For a 3-year-old baby, the healthiest room temperature should be around 20 to 18 degrees Celsius, and the indoor humidity of the baby should be maintained at about 60 to 75 percent. When the baby is in the room, it is best to hang a thermometer or a hygrometer, which will make it easier for parents to observe the environment.

In winter or spring, the environment will be drier, and the baby's chance of coughing will increase, so you can choose to use some humidifiers to help the baby create a more suitable environment. Hanging wet clothes in the room can also increase the humidity inside the room. Use a wet towel to wipe the baby's body. When the baby's cough is more serious, you can let the baby inhale some steam or hold the child in your bathroom and turn on the hot water in the water heater to let the warm and humid air enter the baby's airway more smoothly.

Applying a hot water bottle on the baby's back can effectively relieve the baby's cough. The hot water bottle needs to be filled with water at about 55 degrees, then wrapped with a thin towel, and then applied to the baby's back near the lungs. This will accelerate the expelling of cold from the baby's body.
